First a bit about Monday
Some readers may have noticed that the Monday paper is four pages smaller than normal. This is due to the elimination of what we call “house ads.” These are advertisements in which we promote ourselves (subscribe!, read our blogs!, look for jobs here!).
We noticed that they were taking up about 3 pages or more on Mondays so we reshuffled things a bit to eliminate those. We also reconfigured the press to print the Monday paper in two sections instead of four.
However, the news hole remains the same size as it always has been, but some folks just don’t buy it, so feel free to start yelling now.
Upcoming TV Weekly
Starting this Sunday, we’ll have free samples of the new TV Weekly book. I discussed the changes at length in this post.
Now … by the numbers
On Oct. 12, MTSU will travel to Denton, Texas to take on North Texas in football. Adam Sparks will be there to cover the game live, but he’s going to work on a few other stories while he’s there.
Adam will also be covering C-USA’s media day for basketball and lining up a couple other interviews we think our readers will enjoy.
Here’s what we had in print this week:
- 41 staff-written local stories.
- 58 local staff photos.
- 27 stories submitted by local organizations and businesses.
- 16 local photos submitted by area organizations and businesses.
- 61 local calendar/event announcements.
- 18 obituaries.
- Six birth announcements.
- Six locally written editorials.
- Seven local letters to the editor.
- Two local guest columns.
- Three local staff columns.
- 30 staff-produced local sports stories.
- 26 local staff photos in sports.
- 32 submitted sports results and/or announcements.
- Eight local submitted sports photos.
We also published online two pod casts, a video cast, about 20 videos and more than a dozen photo galleries.
Speaking of videos, did you see this great video? In it, area coaches talk about a local guy – Sonny Gray – who is now playing Major League Baseball.
